Say a big "NO" to emails before bed

Checking emails up to an hour before bed, on any electronic device, is equivalent of drinking a double espresso, a recent study warns insomniacs.

The research said light from a laptop or computer or mobile phone signals the brain to stop production of melatonin, a natural hormone that helps regulate the body's circadian sleep-wake cycle, which ultimately leads to insomnia.

''Being in a relaxed environment and incorporating essential wind-down time into your day is your best chance of securing a great night's sleep, along with silence, darkness and comfort,'' the Daily Telegraph quoted lead researcher Chris Idzikowski, as saying.

All over the world, the work-related stress and the habit of checking emails at night are endangering people's chances of securing a good night's sleep.
